By Aoife Doyle

With Summer approaching and good weather on the way, there is no better time to get together with friends and enjoy some food and drinks on one of Vancouvers many patios. If this sounds right up your street, we have you covered with all of our favourite patio recommendations across the city, with something to suit everyone’s needs!

Score on Davie

Right in the heart of the West End on Davie Street, with a brand-new heated patio for the coming Summer months, Score on Davie is a great spot to hang out for some food and drinks! They offer great cheap daily specials and have an extensive menu to suit all dietary requirements. If you’re a fan of Caesar’s or have never tried one before and really want to treat yourself; Score is the perfect place! Known for its famous creative Caesar’s, they have a wide range of options to choose from that don’t disappoint!

Located right across from Kitsilano beach, Local is the perfect option on a sunny day to relax with some food and drinks, especially after a day spent on any of the near-by beaches. Although this spot is usually consistently busy, Local offers quite an extensive patio and so wait times are usually pretty good! What more could you want than sipping on a refreshing cocktail whilst watching the sunset overlooking the beach? Local also has another location in the heart of Gastown, boasting another large, heated patio, which is particularly nice at night once the cobbled surrounding streets are lit up.

The Keefer Yard

If you’re looking for a patio with a twist, then this Open-Air Cocktail and Mini-Putt
The bar is the perfect place for you! This is a great patio to go with a group of friends and have a lot of fun playing mini-golf whilst enjoying a few drinks. The larger tables are also complete with an open fire pit on the table, which creates a nice cozy atmosphere under the disco ball-covered patio. Happy hour runs from 2-4 pm and the food menu from The Keefer Bar offers some Small Plates and Bar Snacks. Alternatively, you can also order from two local restaurants – Juke Chicken or Mila, from 2-8:30 pm and your food will be delivered right to your table! If you happen to call in on a Monday evening, you can also expect some live music to keep you entertained!

33 Acres Brewery

Calling all craft beer lovers, 33 Acres Brewery will live up to all of your needs! With a patio that spans along both the Brewery and Tasting Room, there’s plenty of space for a beer in the sunshine. Speaking of which, their 33 Acres of Sunshine French Blanchè is a firm favourite amongst beer lovers and a definite go to on our list. 33 Acres Brewery offers a wide range of beers to choose from, with seasonal rotators in the mix also if you’re feeling in the mood for something a little different. They also offer some bar snacks and sandwiches throughout the week and a weekend brunch from 11am-3pm.

The Boxcar

Just a few blocks away from Chinatown, this Main Street patio feels tucked away from the rest of the street. It is the perfect sunspot to chill at and enjoy some drinks. With a Happy Hour that runs from 3-6pm, The Boxcar is known for its selection of organic wines and delicious cocktails. Although they don’t offer food in house; you are allowed to bring take-away food in with you from two local spots. First of those is Pizzeria Farina, which is located right next door and offers delicious thin crust authentic pizzas. The second option is TacoFino’s food truck which is situated at Boxcar from Wednesday – Friday 5-9pm and Saturday – Sunday 3-9pm, offering delicious Mexican inspired eats that we highly recommend.

Uncle Abes

We recommend Uncle Abe’s patio for its great daily Happy Hour. There are not many places that offer a lager and a shot for just $8. Not to mention that they also have 2oz menu cocktails for the same price! The patio is located right on the main street, which is a real treat on sunny days as the space is completely wide open. However, they do have the option of heated cover for those days that are a little less bright. Uncle Abe’s does not have a kitchen, but not to worry as this is another great spot that you can bring your own food with you. Despite this, Abe’s shares their space with Mitra Canteen, which is right next door and one of the best spots in the city for taking away Mediterranean food. With super friendly staff, good music, and a homely feeling; a visit to Uncle Abe’s is a guaranteed good time for all!

If you’re craving one of the best vegan meals in Vancouver, then look no further than Meet. With three locations to choose from, it’s an easy choice for food and drinks no matter where you are in the city. Our personal favorite location is on Main Street as they have a wide-open patio that gets the sun all day. However, the other two locations in Yaletown and Gastown both have heated patio’s that are also covered for those days when you prefer a cozier vibe, with some relaxing lighting. Meet’s menu features a wide range of delicious plant based and gluten free meals, however their dishes are loved by many a meat eater as well! The Gastown location also offers a brunch menu until 4pm and each location has specific daily specials that are sure to fulfill everyones needs!

Situated on popular West 4th St in Kitsilano, from the outside, you would never guess that this bar has a patio outback. Meander your way through this eclectic bar, with its stylish furnishings and giant flat screens, and you’ll reach their recently refurbished patio garden. Built with Vancouver’s interchangeable weather conditions in mind, this patio will make you feel like you’re in the tropics, even if it’s pouring down with rain. Take a perch at the outside bar among the luscious plants or grab a wooden picnic table with your pals and peruse their extensive drink’s menu – we highly recommend the ‘Captain Brunch’ cocktail! When the sun sets, either stay outside and cozy up by the outdoor heaters or head inside to catch a live DJ play his set. Their Happy Hour runs from 4 – 6 pm!

CRAFT Beer Market

Craft Beer Market has two locations for you to choose from in the city. First up, you have Craft in the West End of the city, overlooking English Bay beach which is the perfect patio spot in the evenings for some incredible sunset views! They also have another location at Olympic Village which has a much larger patio for you to enjoy and a seriously impressive bar that spans much of the barn-shaped building; which is also just as eye-catching. Craft Beer Market is known for having one of the largest selections of craft beers available in Vancouver. With over one hundred beers on tap, there’s definitely no shortage of options for you to choose from. Craft also has a fantastic Happy Hour with food and drinks starting at just $4 from Monday – Saturday 2-5 pm, 9- close from Monday-Thursday, and all-day Sunday. Not to mention they also have a great selection of daily offers that are for sure not to be missed!

Havana Vancouver is inspired by the color and culture of Old Havana, Cuba and in our opinion, it is the perfect spot to enjoy an upbeat atmosphere, with great music, food, and drinks in the heart of Commercial Drive. They guarantee a commitment to fresh, local ingredients, with a taste of Latin and Pacific Northwest style flavors. Their patio is the perfect sun spot all day round which is perfect for the Summer days ahead! Happy Hour runs from 3-5 pm and 9-10 pm daily, offering food and drink for as cheap as $4! Havana also has a weekend brunch Happy Hour from 10-11 am that we highly recommend. What more could you want than soaking up some rays on a beautiful Latin-inspired patio, whilst sipping on some classic cocktails?
