Listen to the locals to find the best coffee in Venice Beach
For many of us travelers (& homebodies too), a good coffee helps us start the morning, ease a hangover, or get over a bad case of jet lag. Whether you sip and linger, people watch, or just grab a cup and go for a wander, a really good coffee can make you feel right at home. We’ve narrowed it down to seven spots where you can find the best coffee in Venice Beach, from Abbot Kinney to the Venice boardwalk. Try some of these neighborhood favorites, and see what all the fuss is about!
Take a stroll down the ubber-trendy Abbott Kinney street for some Venice history, amazing street art, chic-designer stores and hip coffee shops like:
- Blue Bottle – 1103 Abbot Kinney, 10 minute walk from the hostel
Blue Bottle roast their beans on vintage German coffee roasters, and do one hell of a pour over. These guys do great coffee, and they are usually less crowded than the other Abbot Kinney coffee shops. Blue Bottle have coffee shops in USA’s trendiest cities like New York & San Francisco, so keep an eye out if you like their brews.
- Intelligentsia – 1331 Abbot Kinney, 10 minute walk from the hostel
Always bustling and buzzing with hipsters and locals, you’ll definitely enjoy the people watching as well as the tasty coffee.
- TOMS Flagship Store – 1344 Abbot Kinney, 10 minute walk from the hostel
Another great spot for people watching, the TOMS flagship store has a cute café and a cool place to hang out. Linger amidst locals working on laptops, or perhaps try on some shoes and sunglasses. Not only a trendy place to hang out & shop, TOMS has an incredible charity program donating shoes, medical supplies and education to those in needs, sip a coffee & lend a hand. Learn more.
- Bulletproof Coffee – 3110 Main Street, 15 minute walk from the hostel
Whoever came up with the idea to put butter into coffee was really onto something. It sounds strange at first, but it’s definitely worth a try. These guys pride themselves on high quality, natural ingredients. Try their blend, and see what all the fuss is about.
A little closer to home are some of our staff favorites (visited most mornings before the 8am desk shift). You can literally roll out of your hostel bed into these Venice favorites. Make sure you try:
- Menotti’s – 56 Windward Ave, right across the road from the hostel
Get your espresso fix here. Hip vibe and helpful baristas, vinyl records on rotation…it’s also the closest coffee shop to the hostel, in case you’re less in the mood for a morning walk. Or perhaps getting your espresso fix will put you in that sort of mood.
- Sidewalk Café – 1401 Ocean Front Walk, 2 minute walk from the hostel
If you’d like your coffee with a beach side serve of bacon and eggs, this is your spot. From sun-up to sunset, this patio is the perfect place to slowly sip the traditional American drip coffee with other diner food favorites. Show them your Samesun keytag between 8-11am, and they’ll give you a discount!
- Groundwork Coffee Co. – 3 Westminster Ave, 2 minute walk from the hostel
It’s got friendly baristas, organic fair trade coffee, a busy local vibe, and just steps away from the beach…not much more you could ask for! To really embrace the Venice Beach culture, try a hemp-milk late!
…Fruit Gallery – 1 Westminster Ave, 2 minute walk from the hostel
If you’re not much of a coffee drinker, check out this super healthy juice and smoothie shop, next door to Groundwork.
*** Don’t forget to dispose of take away containers responsibly, or better yet invest in a light weight coffee travel mug to reduce the waste, while enjoying all the taste!
