| So you’re a backpacker. Searching the world
for something special to email home about. You’re gonna do the
big ones; Vancouver, Banff….but what about somewhere off the
beaten track?
Fernie, British Columbia (population 5000) is hidden in the Elk
Valley a short drive from Calgary, Alberta. The picturesque town
nestled in towering mountains with untamed wilderness (yep, that
includes the Canadian wildlife) offers spectacular four season activities.
This is no hick-town though…the people are friendly, relaxed
and downtown is home to the best curry house in BC. Need more convincing?
Mountain biking? Fishing? Hiking? Rafting? All here, ripe for the
picking.
Snow your thing? Fernie’s got it…by the shed-load.
The reputation of Fernie Alpine Resort (included in our Rocky Mountain
Rager Ski Package) as the steepest, deepest mountain in the Rockies
is spreading for a reason…it’s true. The mountain receives
over 28 feet of snowfall annually and is made up 3 main bowls. Neck
high powder in Fernie is not uncommon. Sweeeeet...!
So how about a small unspoiled mountain town where you can meet
more locals than tourists, where people find your accent novel and
where you can experience mountain life any season? Fernie’s
the place.
Fernie is only 3 hours from Calgary International Airport; an hour
away from Cranbrook, BC and is fully serviced by all modes of transportation.
