Cherry Blossoms

033rsz cherryblossomcuttings1 Cherry BlossomsIt’s my favourite time of year in Vancouver. The cold rainy days are giving way to more and more sunny days with flowers blossoming and transforming the trees from their regular green to a multitude of colours. The most impressive is the streets lined with cherry blossoms. From Bute St Downtown; 10th Ave in Mount Pleasant; Granville Island to Yew St in Kitsilano, the cherry blossoms (or Kanzan trees if you want to get technical) are in full bloom.

The Cherry Blossom Festival wrapped up last weekend, but there’s still plenty of time do a self guided tour. One of my favourite bike routes for this time of year is from the Broadway/Commercial Skytrain station along the 10th Ave bike route to Cypress St and down to Kits beach.  10th Ave makes for a relaxing bike route without too much traffic, and the street is narrow enough with huge cherry blossom trees to get the full effect.

Check out the Festival’s website for a current map of trees in bloom.
